LOOK: Soldiers who Fatally Shot Omar Maute to Receive P3-M Bounty, Offered to Retire.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines earlier on Wednesday announced it would give P3 million of the P5 million Omar Maute bounty money to the 54-year old CAFGU who fatally shot the Isis-linked Maute terrorist leader.

The soldier, who the AFP withhold his name due to security reasons, is also advised to process his retirement upon returning to his hometown in Negros Occidental next month. The soldier, who is considered a hero after fatally hitting Omar Maute last Monday, has been in active service since 1992, receiving around P2,500 per month.

“We would like him to enjoy the rest of his life with his family. He has done enough for this country. He is 54 years old and he needs to call it a day. Not many people in the military achieved what he just accomplished. There’s a lot of us who are envious and the same time proud of him”, Col. Romeo Brawner told local journalists on Wedesday morning.

Since he is under the Army’s command, Brawner said the soldier will receive Distinguished Service Star award, he third highest military award of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It is awarded for eminently meritorious and valuable service rendered while holding a position of great responsibility.

The colonel said President Duterte will conduct the awarding ceremony next month, together with at least two dozens of soldiers who will also receive different medals.

The 54-year old CAFGU and native of Manapla, Negros Occidental, will also receive high-school and scholarship grants for his two daughters aged 13 and 17 years old.

President Duterte is expected to name the brave soldier during the ceremony according to Brawner.
