HIMALA!: Sen. Drilon defends Pres. Duterte against UN rights chief: “Ayaw ko rin na insultuhin ang ating Pangulo”
In a rare occasion, one of the members of the opposition publicly defended President Rodrigo Duterte.
Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, in an interview with dzRH, criticized the statement of United Nations Human Rights Chief Prince Zeid Raad Zeid al-Hussein of Jordan who said that President Rodrigo Duterte should undergo a “psychiatric evaluation.”
Drilon said that even he’s a member of the opposition, he didn’t liked what came out to the mouth of the Zeid.
“Kahit ako ay nasa oposisyon, ayaw ko rin na insultuhin ang ating Pangulo,” he said.
“Sa akin po, bilang Pilipino, hindi maganda na ang pinuno (natin) ay iinsultuhin nang ganito at nagiging personal,”
He suggested that it would be better if the word war between the President and the Human Rights Chief would improve the level of their discourse.
“Siguro we must have restraint in this debate. We can debate. Ika nga, we can disagree, we need not be disagreeable. And ibig sabihin, magdebate tayo but let us keep to a level na ang issu lamang ang pag-uusapan at hindi po nagiging personalan,” Drilon said.
Drilon also said that he was not shocked by the tirades by President Rodrigo Duterte against the members of United Nations especially to special rapporteur Agnes Callamard who repeatedly expressed her willingness to investigate the controversial war against illegal drugs by the Philippine government.
The senator knew the style of the former Davao City Mayor and because Duterte is now the President, he understand why every tirades that he threw captured the attention of the international community and human rights group.
“Hindi po bago sa akin iyan dahil noong alkalde siya ng Davao ay ganyan ang style niya. Ngunit ngayon na Pangulo na siya ay siguro mas malawak ang epekto ng kaniya binibitiwang salita,” he said.
Aside from Drilon, Senator Panfilo Lacson also defended President Duterte and slammed the UN rights chief for disrespecting the leader who democratically elected by the people.
The President threatened, mocked and cursed the members of the human rights group and the United nation for allegedly interfering in his war against illegal drugs.
Now, Duterte’s latest order to tag 600 personalities as ‘terrorist’ criticized by the members of United Nation. One them is UN special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, Victoria Tauli-Corpuz who allegedly aligned with the CPP-NPA-NDF.
Because of this, Zeid attacked the Filipino President, saying that Duterte disrespected their rapporteur.
“it makes one believe that the president of the Philippines needs to submit himself to some sort of psychiatric evaluation.” Zeid said.
“This is absolutely disgraceful that the president of a country could speak in this way, using the foulest of language against a rapporteur that is highly respected.”
