Some Priests Act Like Politicians —Only in the Philippines

This was not the first time that some church leaders intervened to the good advocacy of Duterte Administration, why didn’t the Church do something about this in the past? Some priests act like as if they know everything what’s going in the Philippines.

In a blog post of Mr. Alon Calinao Dy, he said, “some priests are really good through giving advice or by words alone, but without actions, it’s like creating problems without presenting better solutions.”

Filipinos are tired about those bishops and priests who do more politicaly rather than spreading the true word of God. Some of these priests are more engaged in the political issues that differ from other countries. Today the same question should be answered by these religious leaders: is it only in the Philippines?

Why don’t bishops and priests shut up let the Duterte Administration do their work properly? The Church is surrounded by the political people everywhere people go. But the problem of some priests here in the Philippines intervening Duterte’s drug war is more intense than ever. Why do bishops and priests intervene more politically? Are there money and power involved here?

For the bishops and priests who are directly involved in Philippine politics are like corrupt politicians who have their own agendas. This is to confuse and distort the correct understanding of unity as they divide Filipinos because of their different political views.

”The moral credibility and spiritual authority of some bishops and priests have been greatly reduced as they became partisans, affecting others who truly served God,” Mr. Alon Calinao Dy added.

Filipino people who are reacting to some bishops and priests who act like political leaders are just reminders that they must stay away in the world of politics as they’re not elected by the local people but they served as proclaimers of the Gospel or the Word of God.

Like what I asked, why didn’t the Church do something about this in the past? Especially here in the Philippines… I just hope one day that these bishops and priests should not be partisans but rather serve the people according to teachings of the Church.
